The Valley's Pedestrian Freeway

IMAGINATION NOT REQUIRED

Imagine a pedestrian freeway letting you hike, bike or ride around the Valley, exploring desert vistas and visiting community landmarks along the way - without having to compete with motorized vehicles.
Envision a ring of trails circling the Valley, connecting parks, riparian corridors, recreational facilities and desert landscapes - a system of open space amenities from the Phoenix Rio Salado to Tempe Town Lake and into Mesa, accessing Maricopa County's regional parks, Scottsdale's Indian Bend Wash, the West Valley Recreation Corridor along the Agua Fria and New River and beyond.
The Valley's Pedestrian Freeway is a priceless necklace of trails and gems. The untold story is the numerous gaps in the system. Our goal is to close those gaps. And our passport is the next step in an ongoing effort to both complete the regional trails system and promote the precious gems in every community.
Learn more about the trails system and how you can help. Pay close attention to open space amenities in your own community and help influence your elected officials and policymakers to "close the gaps" in our regional trails system.
We invite you now to come on in and interact with these trails. Find out where they are and discover trail gems such as Camelback Mountain, Lake Pleasant, the McDowell Sonoran Preserve and the Lost Dutchman Mine State Park.

BALANCING GROWTH AND THE ENVIRONMENT

The livability and sustainability of our region has been at the core of Valley Forward since its inception.

Regional governments and organizations like Valley Forward are now looking at the Sun Corridor megapolitan between Phoenix and Tucson as a place requiring better planning and communication between jurisdictions.

How we manage our natural resources impacts our quality of life. Valley Forward convenes public and private sector interests to address critical environmental issues.
